Capriccio Italiano was the title of this recital of 17-18th century violin and harpsichord music by Charivari Agréable, a.k.a. Kah-Ming Ng and friends. Edmund Taylor and Matthew Milkey played baroque violins.
Focussing on composers from Northern Italy, where the violin was first made, it featured rarely heard chamber compositions by Dario Castello, Francesco Cavalli, Albinoni, Frescobaldo, Corelli, Caldara and Bononcini. The evening concluded with Vivaldi's variations on La Folia, a bold piece, full of contrasts, and the performance was impressively virtuoso.
This concert which is part of the Early Music by Candlelight Summer Festival will be repeated on August 9th and August 30th 2026 in the chapel of Exeter College, Oxford. There are five different programmes performed in the season.
